Let words play a "battle royale"
Linguists often question the complexity of English, particularly the inefficiency that its grammatical structures might pose. In the eyes of many, English harbors redundant and outdated grammatical rules. For instance, there are as many as five different ways to express the future tense in English. This is undoubtedly a significant challenge for those whose mother tongue is not English and are trying to learn the language.
A Chinese scientist in the field of psychology, and the main author of this study, Li Ying, has herself experienced the difficulties of learning English. Although her native language is not English, she still points out that, for example, 800 years ago, English grammar was even more complex and difficult to master.
